Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hank Holmes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesus Pope!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes wants to clinch
and Pope counters with a good low kick that Holmes was not able to check.
Holmes walks forward, straight into a front kick from Pope.
Pope walks into a left hand.
Hank Holmes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Holmes is looking to clinch but Pope is avoiding it.
Holmes scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Holmes throws a body punch but Pope moves out of range.
Holmes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Holmes tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pope closes the distance and pushes Holmes back into the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Holmes goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Pope is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Pope gets a trip takedown into half guard.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Holmes tries to get to full guard but Pope has control of the leg.

Pope throwing shots but Holmes is blocking nicely.

Pope is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Holmes defends it well.
Pope wants to advance to full mount but Holmes doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Pope postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Pope is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pope tries to free his leg and advance position but Holmes is retaining full guard.

Pope working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Holmes is trying to control the position but Pope postures up.

Pope wants to control from the top but Holmes keeps moving.
Pope stopping the sweep attempt from Holmes.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pope accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pope might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Holmes kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Pope misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Pope is looking to take a break and control but Holmes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pope throws an elbow but Holmes slips to the side and avoids it well.
Pope throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Holmes works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Pope is nestled in close to Holmes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Holmes wants to control but Pope is keeping busy.

Pope perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Holmes is looking to improve his position.
Pope wants to lay and pray for a moment but Holmes keeps working.
Pope has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holmes controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jesus Pope.
Holmes has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Pope.

Jesus Pope showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Pope ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Pope scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Holmes tries to close the distance and clinch but Pope swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pope avoids a punch combination nicely.
Holmes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pope.
Pope connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.


It looks like Hank Holmes has been cut.
A nice leg kick lands there from Pope.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pope lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Pope cracks a nice hook into Holmes's ribs.
Pope looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Pope lands a head kick. Holmes smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Holmes is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Holmes tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pope throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Holmes.
Hank Holmes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Oooh a lovely combination from Pope sends Holmes down but not out. Pope dives into side control looking to finish.


Holmes is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pope has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Holmes!
Oh Holmes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pope postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Holmes badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Pope around the waist but Pope pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Pope is the winner by TKO! Pope jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jesus Pope!
