Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Efreitor Peter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Nixon! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nixon throws a shot from downtown. Peter moves away and avoids it. Peter ducks under a wild hook from Nixon. Nixon throws a right and a left that Peter avoids nicely. Nixon misses with an uppercut. Peter saw that one coming. Rick Nixon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Peter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nixon circles away quickly and effectively. Peter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Peter defending well as Nixon loads up on a big left hand. Peter loads up on a big right hand but Nixon slips the punch. Peter misses with a body shot.
Nixon lunges at Peter with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Peter's hand. Peter avoids the body shot from Nixon.
Peter throws a hook to the side of Nixon's head but Nixon sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Nixon with a hook. Nixon misses with a hook. Peter ducked under it nicely. Peter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Peter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Peter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nixon swivels and escapes.
That's one minute gone in the round. No joy there for Nixon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Peter slips a straight right by Nixon. Peter throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Nixon throws a poor cross that misses
and Peter counters with a left to the body. Peter fails to land with a series of punches.
Nixon lands with an uppercut that bounces Peter off the cage and back into range. Nixon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Peter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Peter controlling the position. Nixon is trying to get back to half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Peter misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Peter lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Nixon down.
Peter lands a nice forearm strike. Nixon is trying to buck Peter off. Peter taking a breather here. Peter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Peter tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Nixon is trying to get back to his feet. Peter has knee on belly and moves into mount. The referee warns Nixon that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Peter is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Peter!
