Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Reid! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Diamond ! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diamond misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Reid tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Diamond manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Diamond shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Diamond has hold of Reid's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Reid manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Diamond blocks Reid's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Diamond working for a guillotine from mount but Reid is in no mood to give up. Reid is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Diamond can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Reid is looking to escape. Diamond with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Reid wants to hold on but Diamond pushes him away. Diamond looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reid is looking to get to half guard. Diamond is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Reid is forced to tap! Great finish!
