The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Howard is stalling here. Emelanenko is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Howard seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Emelanenko has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Howard on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Emelanenko works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Howard wants to control but Emelanenko postures up.

Howard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Emelanenko feints and as Howard raises his hands in defense, Emelanenko changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Howard tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Howard has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Emelanenko wants to stand but Howard has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Howard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Emelanenko gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

and Emelanenko counters with a nice double leg into guard.
