PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Duke Nukem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Staal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nukem comes to the cage accompanied by The Duke Nukem Theme by Megadeth. On his way into the cage it seems that Duke Nukem has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Duke Nukem seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duke Nukem! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Staal! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Reed Andrews and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nukem throws a chopping leg kick but Staal manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Nukem fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Staal is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nukem. Nukem lands with a thumping leg kick.
Nukem rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Staal moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Nukem blocks a jab. Staal avoids a kick to the body.
Nukem throws a wild body kick that Staal sees coming a mile off. A combination from Nukem does no damage. Nukem looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Nukem misses with a wild combination.
Nukem looks to land a body kick but Staal moved away. A big right from Nukem misses. Nukem on the wrong end of a nice jab. Staal darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Still in half guard, Staal seems content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nukem pushes Staal off looking to stand but Staal dives back in and keeps control.
Staal should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Staal connects with a nice short shot to Nukem's temple. Staal not doing much here.
Nukem is not content to let Staal control the position. Staal working Nukem over with strikes. Nukem is trying to stand.
Staal looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nukem with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Staal is working for a kimura but Nukem is defending it quite comfortably.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nukem keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Staal tries to pass to full mount but Nukem defends it. Nukem is not content to let Staal control the position. Staal prevents Nukem from improving his position. Staal not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Staal wants to free his trapped foot but Nukem is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Nukem tries to land a front kick but Staal steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Staal throws a looping overhand right but Nukem ducks down to avoid it. Nukem tries to clinch up. Staal shoots for a takedown but Nukem saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Nukem looking to land some kicks to the body here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nukem throws a right and a left that Staal avoids nicely. Nukem misses with a double jab.
Nukem is breathing heavily. Nukem dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Staal. That did some damage! Nukem throws an off balance right hand
and Staal counters with a one-two to the body. Staal uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Nukem has time to react. Nukem tries to clinch but Staal moves away and Staal cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Nukem tries to land a body kick and Staal counters with a shoot takedown. Nukem fights it but they end up in guard. Staal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nukem is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Staal is controlling him. Nukem is pulling down on Staal's head. It's preventing any offense from Staal, at least for the moment. Staal throwing strikes but missing. Staal drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Nukem manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Staal has Nukem in his guard. Nukem trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Staal is trying to control the position but Nukem postures up. Nukem drops back looking for a leg! Staal is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Staal manages to kick Nukem off! Nukem jumps back into Staal's guard. Nukem controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Nukem wants to stand but Staal is controlling his posture from full guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Staal looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nukem is one step ahead there. Staal keeping full guard, as Nukem tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Staal dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
No joy there for Nukem, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Staal thows a body shot but no joy. Nukem tries to work over Staal's front leg with a kick but Staal checks it. Nukem cracks the inside of Staal's front leg. The fighters circling - Staal throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Nukem has managed to clinch.
Staal tightens his grip and picks Nukem up, before dumping him to the ground. Nukem manages to land in guard. Nukem has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Staal should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Nukem has tightened it up now! Staal should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Duke Nukem! Duke Nukem is the new super heavyweight champion!
