Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wanista Romero! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The crowd cheers as Romero lands an impressive looking overhand right. James doesn't seem phased though. James has managed to clinch.
James stalling against the cage.
James is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Romero is defending well for now. James taking a breather. Romero wants to get back to striking at distance but James won't allow it.
Romero scores with an uppercut up the middle. Romero managing to block the knees to the body from James.
James gets a trip takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Romero flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
James is thwarting Romero's attempts to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Romero is trying to stand up here but James is controlling him well. Romero is trying to maintain the position but James is very close to passing his half guard.
We're going to have a standup here because John James wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Romero connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Romero jabs James to the body, keeping him at a distance. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Romero takes a swing at James's ribcage but misses. Romero lands a left and a right that send James crashing to the mat, dazed. Romero thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! Romero misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Romero cracks James with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Romero pounces like a tiger and cracks James with a vicious hook! James is down but not out! Romero follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Wanista Romero!
