PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Owen William (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Mecier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alan Mecier told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Owen William!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alan Mecier!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

William looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
William is trying to control. Mecier wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mecier wants to get back to his feet.
Mecier is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mecier moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Mecier has his feet on William's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Mecier darts in and clinches William up against the cage.

Mecier manages to break the clinch.

William closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mecier's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mecier wriggles free and stands up.

Mecier takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

William looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mecier is looking to escape.

Mecier pushes William off and gets back to his feet.

William throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mecier tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. William is in Mecier's guard.

Mecier has his foot on William's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. William works his way back into a safe position though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mecier uses the cage to get back to his feet.

William shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mecier manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mecier scrambles and gets back to his feet.

William is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mecier's half guard.
William tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mecier knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Mecier has one foot on William's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Mecier throws a nice looking combination but William bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Alan Mecier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mecier clinches with his opponent.

William gets a trip takedown into half guard.

William decides to stand and escape the position.

Mecier tries to keep at a distance but William has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mecier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
William tries to close the distance and clinch but Mecier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

William shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
William wants to control but Mecier is keeping him busy.

Mecier manages to escape and get back to his feet!
William tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mecier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mecier tries to close the distance and clinch up but William swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mecier tests William's chin there with a solid looking shot.
William is looking to clinch.

No joy there for Mecier, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
William tries to close the distance and clinch but Mecier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mecier is looking to clinch.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
William cracks Mecier with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

William moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Owen William will probably get the nod.
That's time! William's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mecier moves out of range of the strikes.
Mecier throws a left and a right that both miss
and William counters with a nice kick to the body.
Mecier lands an overhand right.

William takes the fight into the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from William.
William is looking to break free of the clinch but Mecier has double underhooks.

Mecier jumps guard.

Mecier pushes William off and gets back to his feet.
Some wild striking there from Mecier.

William shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Mecier is breathing heavily.

Mecier wants to try and get back to his feet.
William controlling the pace for now.
William tries to control but Mecier wriggling away.
You get the feeling that Mecier really doesn't like being in this position too much.
William tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
William trying to control but Mecier is having none of it.
Owen William overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mecier tries to reverse the position but William maintains control.

Mecier is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Mecier is in all sorts of trouble here.
Mecier wants to control but William is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

William can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mecier is looking to escape.

William is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mecier is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

We're going to have a standup here because Owen William wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

William tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mecier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Mecier closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
William wants to break free but Mecier has control.
Mecier jumps guard but William turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Mecier tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. William just stands there and leans against the cage.
William wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mecier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mecier fails to land with a series of punches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
William connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mecier gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mecier is looking for a triangle but William pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Owen William will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Mecier dodges the punch combination from William.
Mecier swats away the attempt to clinch by William.
William misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mecier moves into the clinch successfully.

William escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
William fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mecier.

Mecier's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

William throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mecier was covering up waiting for the punch and William finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Mecier wriggles free and stands up.
Owen William is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mecier takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
William throws a nice looking combination but Mecier bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mecier shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. William eats them both and turns towards Mecier to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Mecier uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from William.
William tries to clinch there but Mecier circles away.

William walks into a jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
William is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mecier.

William shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Mecier is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Mecier bucks up and throws William to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

William shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mecier is trying to defend but William finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

William is trying to control the action in half guard but Mecier is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

and Mecier counters with a straight right hand.
Mecier misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Owen William is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
William fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Mecier is out of range.
Mecier throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mecier throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling William to counter with a crisp jab.
Mecier throws a series of punches but William avoids them all with ease.

William manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mecier on his heels. He'll look to pass Mecier's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Alan Mecier.
I think William has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
