Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, San Te! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roshihiro Funkiunga! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Te dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Funkiunga. That did some damage! Funkiunga scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Funkiunga gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Funkiunga shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Te eats them both and turns towards Funkiunga to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Funkiunga connects with a single shot there. Funkiunga scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Te feints and then cracks Funkiunga's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Funkiunga down. San Te seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Funkiunga gets tackled into the cage by Te. Te maintains the clinch. Funkiunga is trying to push Te away but Te has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Te breaks from the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Funkiunga. Te swings widly with a right hand
and Funkiunga counters with a single leg into guard. Te didn't expect that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Funkiunga has gone for a leg lock! Te slips out almost immediately though and dives into Funkiunga's guard. Te works over Funkiunga with some ground and pound from guard. Te is posturing up here but Funkiunga has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Te tries to roll out but it's too tight and Te has to tap! Slick submission there by Funkiunga!
