PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cid Strife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johns comes into the arena with Welcome to the jungle blaring out of the sound system. Strife has chosen Tool - Ticks and Leeches as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Junior Johns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Cid Strife! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Strife fails with an attempt to clinch.
Strife moves to clinch but Johns breaks away and Johns counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Johns. Johns sitting in guard, not really doing much. Johns in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Johns tries to free his leg and advance position but Strife is retaining full guard. Johns working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Strife working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johns. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Strife preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Johns passes easily into side control. Nice work. Strife tries to escape but Johns is in control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johns trying to control the action but Strife is working from the bottom. Johns is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Strife is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Johns in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Johns is trying to get an arm triangle but Strife is defending well. An elbow from Johns crashes against the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johns controls the position. Johns tries for a kimura but Strife is defending well. Strife dodges the ground and pound from Johns. Johns is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Strife has escaped the position, nice work there. Johns in side control, throwing shots but Strife defends. Johns working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johns scoring with punches and elbows. Johns swings around for an armbar but Strife sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Johns's guard. Strife wants to control from the top but Johns keeps moving. Johns is trying to control the position but Strife postures up. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Johns is on top in guard.
Johns content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Strife really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johns. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johns trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Johns throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Strife works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Johns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Strife is keeping the position for now. Johns is looking to work some ground and pound but Strife has wrist control. Johns has gone for a leg lock! Strife slips out almost immediately though and dives into Johns's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Johns lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Strife! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Strife is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Junior Johns dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Johns throws a shot from downtown. Strife moves away and avoids it. Johns fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Johns misses with a body shot.
Johns changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Strife tries to avoid it but Johns manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Strife to the ground. Strife escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Johns misses with a looping right. Strife forces Johns back against the cage and clinches. Johns blocks an elbow strike. Johns takes a knee right on the jaw!
Johns looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Johns is trying to force a seperation but Strife has the dominant position. Strife pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. Johns is trying to break the clinch but Strife is controlling him. Johns wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Strife has him pressed against the cage. Johns working hard to break the clinch. Johns has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Strife clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Johns misses with an elbow to the head. Junior Johns overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johns sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Strife taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Junior Johns! Junior Johns very nearly forgot to thank -OVERDOSE Factory- amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
