PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Justice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quantrell Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Quantrell Bishop was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sean Justice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Quantrell Bishop!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Kavanagh and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Justice shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bishop's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Justice is looking to work some ground and pound but Bishop has wrist control.
Justice stops Bishop from standing up.
Justice throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bishop works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Justice throws a big right hand that misses.
Justice stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bishop swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bishop is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Justice manages to break the clinch.
Nice jab there from Justice.
Justice's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Justice duly obliges.

Bishop gets a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A short body shot lands from Bishop as the two fighters clinch.
Bishop lands a body punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Justice manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Bishop's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Justice is working an open guard so Bishop takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Justice goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Justice has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Bishop is trying to keep an underhook but Justice manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Justice not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Bishop is defending against the submission attempts here by Justice.

Justice seems to be looking for submissions.
Bishop regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Justice.

Justice throws an elbow that misses. Bishop uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Justice's guard. Nice move by Bishop!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Justice can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bishop controls the pace.
Bishop trying to control the position from guard on top but Justice is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Justice wants to sweep here but Bishop controlling him for the moment.
Bishop pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Justice is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bishop is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Justice looking for a guillotine here but Bishop defends easily.

Bishop thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Justice looking for a sweep. Not yet Justice, not yet.
Justice looking to control.
Bishop looking to pass the guard.
Bishop trying to control the position from guard on top but Justice is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bishop decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Bishop will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Justice ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bishop moves away.
Bishop throws a head kick but Justice moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Justice shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Justice unloads with some shots from mount but Bishop bucks and avoids them well.
Justice prevents Bishop from getting the reversal.
Bishop is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Bishop tries to lock up and control but Justice gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Justice jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Bishop is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Bishop and Justice has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bishop is trying to buck Justice off.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Justice is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bishop is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sean Justice will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Bishop rushes Justice and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Justice has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Bishop uses from the top position.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bishop, as that shot connected.
Bishop is looking to clinch but Justice is avoiding it.

Bishop keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Bishop rushes Justice and presses him up against the cage.

Justice decides to pull guard.

Justice is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bishop is aware though and is defending well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Justice is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sean Justice overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bishop cracks Justice with a big right hand but Justice just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Justice tries to buck Bishop off but Bishop is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quantrell Bishop showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Bishop jabs at Justice's body.

Bishop gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bishop lands a body punch.

Justice jumps guard and drags Bishop to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Bishop gets to his feet. Justice looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Bishop throws a right and a left that both miss.

Bishop fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Justice, pushing him back against the cage.
Justice is looking to control Bishop's arms but Bishop gets an underhook and turns him. Now Justice has his back to the cage.

Bishop breaks the clinch.
Bishop tries to close the distance and clinch but Justice swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Justice walks into a jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Justice scores with a takedown into Bishop's guard.

Justice postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bishop is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Justice, into his guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bishop makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Bishop is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Justice defends it well.

Bishop looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Bishop tries to stand and escape but Justice is controlling the position.

Bishop seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Justice does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Justice is not content to let Bishop control the position.

Justice moves into full guard.
Bishop wanted to stand there but Justice had control of the position.
Justice lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bishop!
Bishop sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Quantrell Bishop comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bishop has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
