Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Poyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julio Jacy! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jacy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Poyer but Poyer pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jacy shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Nice cross by Jacy.
It looks like Corey Poyer has been cut. Jacy fails in his attempt to clinch. Jacy fails with the takedown. Jacy tries to clinch but fails miserably and Poyer counters with a stiff right hand. Jacy misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jacy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Nice straight punches there by Poyer. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Poyer. A left lands for Poyer. Poyer scores with a jab to the jaw. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Poyer darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Poyer stands up out of the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacy tries to land a body kick and Poyer counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Jacy gets tackled into the cage by Poyer. Poyer maintains the clinch. Poyer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Poyer stalks Jacy and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jacy's face. Jacy staggers backwards, shaken. Poyer misses the jab. Poyer does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Poyer slips a jab and a cross from Jacy.
Poyer leaves Jacy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Corey Poyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Jacy. Jacy looks gassed! Poyer wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Jacy shoots in for a double leg but Poyer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Jacy swats away the attempt to clinch by Poyer. Jacy moves out of range of the body kick from Poyer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jacy fails with the takedown and Poyer counters with a shoot takedown. Jacy fights it but they end up in guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Poyer wants to pass the guard but Jacy is keeping the position. Poyer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Poyer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Poyer gets to his feet - Jacy follows without any prompting. Poyer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jacy looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Poyer connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jacy. Jacy circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Poyer scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Poyer's corner calls for a 1-2. Poyer obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Jacy keeps the fight on the outside. Jacy with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Poyer to score with a decent uppercut. Poyer closes the distance and pushes Jacy back into the cage. Jacy avoids the elbow strike from Poyer, against the cage.

Poyer has Jacy pressed against the cage, preventing Jacy from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Jacy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Poyer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Poyer is trying to force a seperation but Jacy has the dominant position. Jacy keeps control of Poyer as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Poyer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Jacy throws a sloppy head kick and Poyer moves out of range easily. Poyer scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Poyer slows the pace down. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacy on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Poyer throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jacy. Jacy avoids the head kick by Poyer.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Jacy enables Poyer to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jacy manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Poyer advances to half guard. Jacy wants to control but Poyer is keeping busy and won't allow it. Corey Poyer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Poyer with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Poyer decides to return to a standing position. Poyer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jacy! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Poyer looking to control but Jacy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacy tries to hold on but Poyer pushes him away. Jacy is trying desperately to improve position. Poyer content just to control the position here. Jacy regains half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jacy has hold of Poyer's hands but Poyer slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Jacy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Poyer scores with a couple of nice shots. Poyer looks to land a strike but Jacy avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Jacy being controlled here, momentarily. Jacy wants to sweep but no luck. Poyer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. We're going to have a standup here because Corey Poyer wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Poyer throws a chopping leg kick but Jacy manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Poyer tries to land a front kick but Jacy steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Poyer throws a front kick aimed at Jacy's knee but Jacy avoids it well. Poyer rushes Jacy and presses him up against the cage. Jacy prevents the takedown attempt.

Poyer is in Jacy's guard. Poyer stands and steps away. Jacy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Corey Poyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Jacy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Poyer to score an easy takedown into full guard. Poyer gets to his feet. Jacy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Poyer lands with an overhand left. Jacy throws a wild body kick that Poyer sees coming a mile off. Poyer tries to close the distance and clinch but Jacy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Jacy throws a sloppy head kick and Poyer moves out of range easily. Wooooo! Jacy has his takedown stuffed and Poyer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Poyer lands with an uppercut that bounces Jacy off the cage and back into range. Jacy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Poyer's waist but Poyer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jacy off to one side. Poyer keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Jacy avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Poyer. Corey Poyer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Corey Poyer just wasn't active enough. Jacy misses with a takedown attempt - Poyer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Corey Poyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Jacy. Poyer lands an overhand right.
