Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Doug DeSouza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeSouza comes to the cage accompanied by freedom. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Doug DeSouza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Askren! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! DeSouza moves out of range of the strikes. DeSouza throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Askren sees it coming and avoids it easily. Askren avoids the body shot from DeSouza.
DeSouza scores with a crisp jab that stopped Askren in his tracks. Some bone on bone action there as DeSouza checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Askren moves out of range as DeSouza strikes. Askren ducks under a wild hook from DeSouza. Askren uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by DeSouza.
Askren throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. DeSouza misses with a hook
and Askren connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
It looks like Doug DeSouza has been cut. DeSouza scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Askren throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Nice defenses there by Askren.
That's one minute gone in the round. DeSouza will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Askren takes a shot right to the bread basket. Askren slips a jab and a cross from DeSouza.
DeSouza dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Askren tries to move into range but DeSouza moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Askren finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
DeSouza keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A swing and a miss from DeSouza. DeSouza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Askren avoids it really well and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. DeSouza smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Askren swings away with a leg kick that misses. Askren throws an overhand right that lands on DeSouza's shoulder, as DeSouza tries to avoid the shot. DeSouza tries for a takedown but Askren sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A telegraphed right hand from DeSouza misses the target. DeSouza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Askren circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Doug DeSouza. That's going to take a lot out of him. Askren lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! DeSouza jabbing away but nothing is landing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. DeSouza displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Askren throws out the jab. DeSouza closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Askren tests DeSouza's chin there with a solid looking shot.
DeSouza is rocked! A combination from Askren does no damage. Oh DeSouza is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! DeSouza throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Askren throws a nice looking combination but DeSouza bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Askren jabbing away but nothing is landing. Askren pounces like a tiger and cracks DeSouza with a vicious hook! DeSouza is down but not out! Askren follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). John Askren! John Askren seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
