Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Rhea! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rhea lands a nice leg kick that just misses Johnson's sensitive parts. Rhea keeps the fight on the outside. Billy Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rhea blocks a jab. Nice takedown defense from Rhea. No joy for Johnson on that attempt. Rhea throws a nice inside leg kick. Johnson looks for a takedown but Rhea sprawls well. A head kick misses from Rhea. Johnson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rhea to score with a decent uppercut. Johnson fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rhea stuffs the takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet. Johnson blocks a head kick by Rhea.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rhea paws at him with a jab and circles away. Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Johnson is breathing heavily. Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rhea swivels and escapes. Rhea clinches up with Johnson and pushes him back against the cage. Rhea looking to throw knees to the head but Johnson is blocking nicely.
Rhea escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick lands from Rhea that sends Johnson to the canvas. Johnson tries to scramble back to his feet but Rhea brings him back down into side control.
Johnson is rocked!
It looks like Billy Johnson has been cut. Rhea decides to stand back up. Rhea steps back and let's Johnson get back to his feet. Oh Johnson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Rhea cracks Johnson with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Johnson falls to his knees and Rhea doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Simon Rhea!
