Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Sobral! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Carioca! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sobral fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Sobral scores with a takedown into Carioca's guard. Sobral looking to pass the guard. Carioca working a defensive guard here.
Carioca keeping moving, preventing Sobral from controlling successfully. Carioca controls Sobral momentarily but Sobral frees himself. Sobral is pushing down on Carioca's leg trying to pass to half guard. Carioca is fighting to maintain full guard but Sobral has managed to sneak the leg through. Sobral is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sobral is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carioca is trying to maintain the position but Sobral is very close to passing his half guard. Sobral is looking for a kimura here.
Sobral is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carioca defends it well. Sobral is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Carioca sees it coming and defends easily. Carioca really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sobral. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Carioca is in trouble now - Sobral has advanced to mount! Carioca is squirming around, avoiding Sobral's attempts to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobral is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Carioca is surviving well by controlling Sobral's body position as best he can. Sobral is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Carioca is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Carioca flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Sobral anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Carioca and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Sobral slips an arm under Carioca chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Sobral has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Sobral is squeezing on Carioca like an anaconda would it's prey. Carioca fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Renato Sobral! During a confident post fight interview, Renato Sobral thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
