Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leonard Garcia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bung Hatta! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hatta counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Garcia is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Hatta breaks from the clinch.
Garcia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hatta tries to avoid it but Garcia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hatta to the ground. Hatta escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hatta stuffs the takedown attempt from Garcia. Garcia gets slowly back to his feet. Hatta tries to clinch up. Hatta looks to land a combination but Garcia avoids it well. Garcia moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Bung Hatta has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Garcia decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Hatta wants to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hatta tries to get to full guard but Garcia has control of the leg. Garcia trying to control the action but Hatta is working from the bottom. Garcia lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Garcia not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garcia thows a huge punch but Hatta dodges it nicely.
Garcia not landing any meaningful shots this time. Hatta is trying to stand.
Garcia slips a nice elbow through Hatta's hands, connecting with Hatta's forehead. Garcia trying to control the pace. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Garcia lands a nice short elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Garcia trying to control the action but Hatta is working from the bottom. Garcia wants to pass the guard but Hatta is defending well. Garcia stalling. Garcia missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garcia landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Garcia passes the guard and advances to mount! Garcia with shots to the head and body - Hatta looks very uncomfortable down there.
Hatta is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Garcia drops a big elbow. That's hurt Hatta! More shots from Garcia and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leonard Garcia! Leonard Garcia decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
