PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Roode (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Lombard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lombard has Roode up against the ropes in a clinch.
Lombard lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Lombard has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Roode uses from the top position. Roode will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Roode is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Lombard is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Roode wants to control from the top but Lombard keeps moving. Roode stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lombard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roode stands and throws Lombard's legs to the side, diving into side control. Roode wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lombard, who protects the arm well. Roode has hold of Lombard's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Lombard seems comfortable defending it but Roode has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Lombard is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Lombard is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Roode couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bobby Roode! Jumping up and down and very excited, Bobby Roode waved his t-shirt featuring Milwaukee's Best 159's - $45's logo in front of the cameras.
