The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn scores with a one two! Gatez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Gatez misses with a few strikes there.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Gatez shows good takedown defense.
Penn throws a series of punches but Gatez avoids them all with ease.
Penn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Penn lands in his opponent's guard.
Penn wanted to stand there but Gatez had control of the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gatez is on top in guard.
Gatez forces his way into half guard.
Gatez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Penn is looking for a sweep. Gatez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Gatez moves into full mount! Penn won't be happy about that!

Gatez looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Gatez wants to finish this one by submission but Penn is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gatez.
