3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kaarlo Volkano! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schmeck misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Volkano ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Schmeck moves away. Schmeck closes this distance looking for a takedown but Volkano circles away. Volkano misses with a wild body shot. Schmeck is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Volkano's half guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Volkano wants to control but Schmeck is keeping busy.

Schmeck wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Volkano, who protects the arm well. Volkano is trying to work for a sweep but Schmeck has mounted him! Schmeck tries to control but Volkano wriggling away. Schmeck goes for an armbar but Volkano turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Volkano.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Volkano postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Schmeck keeping moving, preventing Volkano from controlling successfully. Volkano must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Schmeck working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Volkano doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Volkano manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Volkano scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Schmeck working a defensive guard here.
Volkano wants to control from the top but Schmeck keeps moving. Schmeck is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Volkano is aware though and is defending well. Schmeck is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Schmeck has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Volkano doesn't defend quickly enough and Schmeck has managed to lock this one up! Can Volkano escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Schmeck on a fantastic submission victory.
