PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklyn Vass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vass has chosen Highway to Hell (AC/DC) as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franklyn Vass!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Vass shoots in but Stone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Vass will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stone lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Stone tries to bum rush Vass with a series of wild strikes but Vass uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Vass misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Vass looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stone is fending him off so far but Vass persists. Nope, Stone circles away and we're back to standing.
Vass fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jon Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Franklyn Vass.
Stone is looking to clinch but Vass is avoiding it.
Stone dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Vass takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stone moves into range and clinches up with Vass.
Knees to the body from Stone.
Stone leaning against his opponent.

Stone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Stone closes the distance and pushes Vass back into the ropes.

Stone manages to break the clinch.
Vass takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Vass tries for a takedown but Stone sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Stone clinches.
Stone stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Stone breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Stone tries to clinch there but Vass circles away.
Vass moves out of range of the body kick from Stone.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vass looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Stone cracks Vass with an open hand slap.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stone tries to clinch up.
Stone slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Stone lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Stone misses with a wild combination.

Stone gets a clinch.
Knees in the clinch landing for Stone.
Stone slowing the pace effectively.

Stone pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Vass tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stone swivels and escapes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone cracks Vass with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.
Stone bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Vass tries to clinch up but Stone circles away and keeps his distance.
Vass misses with a takedown attempt

and Stone counters by clinching up.
Vass looks gassed!
Knees to the body from Stone.
Stone scores a nice knee to the body.
Stone lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stone lands an elbow that stopped Vass in his tracks for a moment.


Vass is rocked!
Stone unloads a knee to the mid-section. Vass lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Vass is still on wobbly legs! Can Stone finish him?

Stone breaks from the clinch.

Stone rushes Vass and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Stone breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vass seems to have recovered his senses.
Vass takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Stone throws a leg kick which misses Vass's front leg but catches the back leg as Vass tries to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stone tries to bum rush Vass with a series of wild strikes but Vass uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Stone moves into the clinch.
Stone gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vass.

Stone's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Stone darts in and clinches Vass up against the ropes.
Stone landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Stone stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Stone crunches a lovely knee into Vass's ribcage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Stone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Stone forces Vass back against the ropes and clinches.
Vass is trying desperately to land a takedown but Stone is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Vass.
Stone utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Stone dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stone feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Vass's calf.
Vass has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Stone has taken the fight to the clinch.

Stone breaks from the clinch.
Stone scores with the left hand. Vass knows he should have avoided that one.
Good leg kick by Stone there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Vass throws a nice looking combination but Stone bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stone forces Vass back against the ropes and clinches.
Stone connects with a knee to the head.
Vass takes a knee to the side of the body.
Vass is breathing heavily.
Stone lands a damaging elbow.

Stone breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stone misses with a head kick.
Jon Stone is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Vass shoots for a takedown but Stone saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Stone fails with an attempt to clinch.

Stone closes the distance and clinches.
Stone lands a good knee to the midsection. Vass won't want to take too many of those.
Stone is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Stone pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stone is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vass can do to turn this around?
Donk. Stone catches Vass right on the button with a cross.

Stone darts in and clinches Vass up against the ropes.
Stone creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Vass's defenses.
Stone lands an elbow inside that Vass shrugs off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stone is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Stone's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vass takes one to the chin there.
Franklyn Vass is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stone changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Stone clinches up with Vass and pushes him back against the ropes.
Stone scores a nice knee to the body.
Stone is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Stone pulls back and lands a big elbow that stuns Vass! Stone unloads with more strikes and Vass sinks to his knees! This one is all over!
