Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steve Claveau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Poyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Claveau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Poyer!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab by Poyer.
Claveau uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Poyer.
Claveau misses with a takedown attempt
and Poyer counters with a right hand to the body.
Poyer tries to clinch up

and Claveau counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Claveau is trying to work for a kimura but Poyer is defending well.
Poyer won't allow Claveau to pass to mount.
Poyer is trying to get back to full guard.

Claveau is working for an americana but Poyer has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Claveau was thinking about the submission.

Steve Claveau has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

and Poyer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Claveau's guard.
Claveau is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Claveau is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Poyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Claveau is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Poyer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Claveau. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Corey Poyer wasn't active enough on the ground.
Claveau doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Poyer counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Claveau. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Claveau pulls Poyer in close to prevent any damage.

Claveau isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Poyer stacks Claveau on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Poyer!

Poyer decides to stand back up. Poyer steps back and let's Claveau get back to his feet.

Poyer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Claveau tries for a takedown but Poyer circles away easily
and Poyer counters with a series of strikes. Claveau will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Poyer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Claveau's guard.
Poyer wants to control from the top but Claveau keeps moving.
Claveau wants to sweep here but Poyer controlling him for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Poyer seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Claveau takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Claveau is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Poyer.
Poyer lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Poyer wants to get back to his feet but Claveau is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Claveau tries to free his leg and advance position but Poyer is retaining full guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Corey Poyer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Claveau moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

and Poyer makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Poyer lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Claveau backs up against the cage.
Claveau takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Poyer looks to land a combination but Claveau avoids it well.
Claveau drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Corey Poyer is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Claveau tries to reverse the position but Poyer maintains control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Corey Poyer was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Claveau shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Poyer counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Claveau takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

and Poyer counters with a stiff right hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Corey Poyer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Poyer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
