PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Cowlam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Craig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cowlam's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Cant Stop. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jamie Cowlam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Craig!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cowlam circles away from the clinch attempt
and Cowlam counters with a series of strikes. Craig will be more careful next time no doubt.
Craig closes the distance and clinches up with Cowlam, looking for a takedown. Craig pushes Cowlam against the cage but Cowlam circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Craig doesn't manage to clinch there - Cowlam circles away.

Cowlam tries to keep at a distance but Craig has taken the fight into the clinch.
Craig tries to pull guard but Cowlam forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cowlam fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Craig escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Craig closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Craig lands in his opponent's guard.

Craig won't allow Cowlam to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cowlam has a closed guard, preventing Craig from standing up.

Craig looking to sit in guard and control but Cowlam gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cowlam throws a big elbow that misses.
Craig is striking but Cowlam is not phased and passes to half guard.
Craig is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Craig wants to improve his position but Cowlam is controlling well.
Cowlam working over Craig with some ground and pound. Craig looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Cowlam seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Craig wants to get back to his feet.

A close round but Simon Craig will probably get the nod.

Cowlam throws a head kick that misses

and Craig counters with a shoot takedown. Cowlam fights it but they end up in guard.

Craig is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cowlam will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jamie Cowlam wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Craig shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cowlam napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Craig happy to just control the position for now.
Cowlam gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Cowlam avoids a series of strikes thrown by Craig.
Craig pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Craig won't let Cowlam get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Craig is landing with some decent strikes but Cowlam is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Cowlam takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Craig has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Craig goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Cowlam turns into him and now he's in Craig's guard.
Craig is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Cowlam distracts Craig with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Craig is trying to control the position but Cowlam postures up.
Craig is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Simon Craig has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cowlam.
Simon Craig seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Craig throws a head kick but Cowlam moves out of range.
Cowlam fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Craig avoids it really well and circles away.
Craig tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cowlam sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Craig somewhat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Craig tries to clinch there but Cowlam circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Craig showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Craig wants to stand but Cowlam has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Craig drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cowlam manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Craig has Cowlam in his guard.

Cowlam loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Craig controls Cowlam momentarily but Cowlam frees himself.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Craig avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Craig is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Craig gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Craig wants to sweep here but Cowlam controlling him for the moment.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Craig is on top in guard.

Craig might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cowlam kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Craig is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Craig holds on and takes a little breather.

And that's the end of the fight!
Simon Craig comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Craig winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
