PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stevens comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Enter Sandman kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Arthur Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stevens rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Jackson breaks from the clinch.
Jackson avoids a punch combination nicely.

Stevens has managed to clinch.
Stevens tries to pull guard but Jackson holds him up against the cage and eventually Stevens drops back down to his feet.
Jackson connects with a nasty looking knee right to Stevens's face.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stevens tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Arthur Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stevens blocks a head kick by Jackson.
Stevens shoots in and drives through. Jackson sprawls well.
Stevens avoids the head kick by Jackson.
Stevens misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson throws a head kick but Stevens moves out of range.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
Jackson has control of Stevens's left arm, preventing Stevens from doing any damage.

Jackson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stevens can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jackson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jackson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Stevens stands up from Jackson's guard - Stevens perhaps looking for a knockout.
Stevens takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jackson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Jackson tries to control but Stevens manages to take his back.
Stevens is trying to stick to Jackson's back but Jackson is turning into Stevens. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Stevens's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Jackson.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stevens is pulling down on Jackson's head. It's preventing any offense from Jackson, at least for the moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jackson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Jackson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Stevens avoids the head kick by Jackson.
Jackson misses with a head kick.
Jackson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jackson lands with a slapping head kick.
Stevens swats away the attempt to clinch by Jackson.
Jackson throws a sloppy head kick and Stevens moves out of range easily.
Stevens tries to clinch but Jackson moves out of range.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jackson throws a series of punches but Stevens moves out of range.
Stevens slips a jab and a cross from Jackson.
Jackson takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Jackson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Stevens counters with a nice double leg into guard.

A close round but James Stevens will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Jackson shoots in for a double leg but Stevens sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Stevens fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

A big right from Stevens misses.
Jackson tries to bum rush Stevens with a series of wild strikes but Stevens uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jackson lands a head kick. Stevens smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Stevens shoots for a takedown but Jackson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jackson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stevens, pushing him back against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jackson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jackson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stevens has him pressed against the cage.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stevens changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Stevens manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Arthur Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Stevens.

Jackson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jackson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Jackson is looking to take a break and control but Stevens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

James Stevens has got the better of the ground game so far.

You can see the frustration on Stevens's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stevens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That was a close second round but I would say that Arthur Jackson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

James Stevens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stevens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
