PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jared Walken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gauthier Lambert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jared Walken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Gauthier Lambert!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walken swats away the attempt to clinch by Lambert.
Lambert fails with a takedown attempt.
Lambert fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Lambert. No joy for Walken on that attempt.
Lambert misses with a body kick.
Walken shoots for a double leg takedown but Lambert sprawls well. He's pushed Walken's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lambert throws a right hand that Walken ducks under and follows up with a left that Walken also avoids with ease.
Walken moves forwards but Lambert connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lambert throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Walken.
Lambert misses with a straight right.
Lambert misses with a takedown attempt - Walken sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jared Walken has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gauthier Lambert.

Lambert fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Walken looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lambert is fending him off so far but Walken persists. Nope, Lambert circles away and we're back to standing.

Lambert wants to clinch.
Walken goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Walken leaves Lambert with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Walken shoots for a double leg takedown but Lambert sprawls well. He's pushed Walken's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Walken shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lambert's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Walken accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Walken slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Walken with a flurry of punches that miss.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Walken pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lambert is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jared Walken wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Lambert manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Walken on his heels. He'll look to pass Walken's guard now, I'm sure.
Lambert postures up in Walken's guard and throws a big left but Walken blocks it.
Walken looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lambert is one step ahead there.
Lambert trying to control but Walken is working from the bottom.

Lambert is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Walken on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Walken tries to get out of the position.

Gauthier Lambert has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Walken shoots in for a takedown but Lambert shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Lambert misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Walken fails to land the takedown.
Lambert takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Sloppy strikes from Lambert. Those never looked like landing.
Nice sprawl there from Lambert as Walken shoots in.

Walken closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lambert circles away.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lambert wants to clinch but Walken slips to the side

and Walken counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Walken is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lambert has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Walken's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lambert throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Walken.
Lambert shoots in and drives through. Walken sprawls well.
Lambert throws a hook to the side of Walken's head but Walken sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lambert leaves Walken with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Walken gets caught napping as Lambert dives in and scores a takedown. Walken manages to retain guard.
Walken pulls Lambert in close to prevent any damage.
Lambert looking to sit in guard and control but Walken gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Walken has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Lambert keeping moving, preventing Walken from controlling successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jared Walken just wasn't active enough.
Walken shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lambert sprawls well. Lambert wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Walken gets slowly back to his feet.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jared Walken. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lambert looks to clinch

and Walken decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lambert's guard.
Walken is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Walken is looking to work some ground and pound but Lambert has wrist control.
Walken wants to control from the top but Lambert keeps moving.
Walken connects with a couple of short punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walken in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Walken stays in close to Lambert's body and controls the position.

Jared Walken has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Lambert tries to close the distance and clinch up but Walken swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Walken shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lambert pinned against the cage. Lambert gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lambert throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Walken counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Walken displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lambert.
Lambert stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lambert wants it to stay on the feet.

Lambert changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Walken looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lambert is breathing heavily.
Lambert working away.
Walken defending against the ground and pound.
Lambert tries to score with some ground and pound. Walken controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Lambert throws a strike aimed at the side of Walken's head but Walken avoids it well.
Lambert in side control, throwing shots but Walken defends.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walken wants to control but Lambert postures up.
Walken manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lambert's best efforts.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lambert with the ground and pound but Walken uses the opportunity to regain guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Walken bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lambert's guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Lambert throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Walken counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Walken wants to control from the top but Lambert keeps moving.

Walken drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lambert looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lambert looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lambert!
Jared Walken overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lambert lands a nice forearm strike.
You can see the frustration on Walken's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Walken is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Walken is looking to control Lambert's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Walken avoid being mounted?
Walken is concentrating on defense, preventing Lambert from advancing position.

Lambert not doing much here.
Walken is pressing down on Lambert's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Walken has momentary wrist control but Lambert slips an elbow through the middle.
Walken working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lambert.
Walken bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lambert's guard.
Walken advances to half guard.
Walken working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Walken seems to be working for a kimura but Lambert defends the submission attempt.
Walken tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lambert knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Lambert takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Walken thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lambert's head.
Walken throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Walken is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Lambert still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Lambert has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Walken defending against the ground and pound.
Lambert in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Lambert tries to score with some ground and pound. Walken controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Walken is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lambert's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Walken is trying to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lambert in particular looking to stall.
Lambert's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Walken is positioning himself well to prevent Lambert advancing to mount.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Walken keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Lambert is looking to take a break and control but Walken is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gauthier Lambert hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lambert tries to clinch but Walken is having none of it.
Walken closes the distance and clinches up with Lambert, looking for a takedown. Walken pushes Lambert against the cage but Lambert circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jared Walken showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walken, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
