Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrew Wiggin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie Spliff! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wiggin tries to land a front kick but Spliff steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Wiggin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Spliff leaves Wiggin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Wiggin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Spliff sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Wiggin throws a head kick but Spliff moves out of range.
Wiggin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Spliff counters with a nice double leg into half guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Wiggin. That's going to take a lot out of him. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Spliff trying to work for an americana but Wiggin has managed to regain full guard.
Spliff is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wiggin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wiggin has escaped and now he's on top! Wiggin wants to control from the top but Spliff keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wiggin tries to free his leg and advance position but Spliff is retaining full guard. Wiggin throws a big elbow that misses. Wiggin trying to control but Spliff is working from the bottom. Wiggin advances position into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Spliff is not content to let Wiggin control the position. Spliff tries to improve position but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wiggin looking to control but instead Spliff has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Spliff looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wiggin is trying to control the action in half guard but Spliff is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Wiggin is looking for a kimura here.
Wiggin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Wiggin is looking to take a break and control but Spliff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Wiggin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Wiggin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Spliff's head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andrew Wiggin dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Wiggin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wiggin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Wiggin shoots in for a takedown but Spliff shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Wiggin doesn't succeed with the takedown and Spliff counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Wiggin's guard now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Wiggin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Spliff works a leg free and moves into half guard. Spliff looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Spliff is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wiggin is just riding it out for now. Spliff eventually gives up the hold.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spliff is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wiggin sees it coming and defends easily. Spliff seems to be looking for submissions.
Wiggin trying to hold on to Spliff's head to control him but Spliff postures up.
Spliff looking for a submission but Wiggin manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Spliff works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Spliff is thwarting Wiggin's attempts to control the position. Wiggin is looking to escape. Wiggin is looking to control Spliff's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wiggin avoid being mounted? Wiggin looking for submissions off his back. Spliff is trying for a kimura here. Wiggin looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Spliff wins by kimura!
