The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell misses with a few strikes there.
Russell scores with a three punch combo!
Davi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Davi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Russell looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Russell fails to land with a series of punches.

Davi drives through with a takedown into guard.

Russell scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Davi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Davi showed some decent athleticism there.
Davi is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Russell is looking to improve his position.

Davi on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Russell. Russell obviously looking to wear him down.

Davi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Davi shoots for a takedown but Russell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Russell throws a series of punches but Davi avoids them all with ease.

Davi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Davi showed some decent athleticism there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Davi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Davi is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Davi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Russell pushes Davi off and gets back to his feet.
Russell throws a low kick, looking for Davi's leg but Davi calmly moves out of range.
Russell connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Nice takedown defense from Russell. No joy for Davi on that attempt.
Russell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Russell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
No joy there for Russell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Davi gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Mario Davi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Russell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Davi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Russell is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Russell has escaped and now he's on top!
Davi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Russell's guard.

Russell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Davi tries to free his leg and advance position but Russell is retaining full guard.
Davi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Davi is sitting in close to Russell's body. Russell has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Davi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Davi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Russell.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Bill Russell!
