Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Francesco Luongo! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Bruno Lombardi and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James gets a double leg takedown into Luongo's guard. Luongo is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. James trying to control but Luongo is working from the bottom. James tries to free his leg and advance position but Luongo is retaining full guard. Luongo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and James defends well. Luongo wants to sweep here but James controlling him for the moment. Luongo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Luongo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
James forces his way into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Luongo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Luongo tries to get to full guard but James has control of the leg. James trying to mount his opponent but Luongo defends it. Luongo regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from James. James wants to pass the guard but Luongo is keeping the position. James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James postures up.
James throwing strikes from guard but Luongo blocks nicely. Luongo looking to control.
James throws a big right hand that misses. James lands a couple of digs. Luongo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Luongo is adopting a defensive guard. James missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Luongo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Luongo's legs - danger averted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James is looking to work some ground and pound but Luongo has wrist control. James wants to pass the guard but Luongo is keeping the position. Luongo trying to keep a closed guard but James is proving a slippery customer.
Luongo is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! James has his hands clasped together but Luongo extends an breaks James's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Luongo.
