PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pepe LePew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierce Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). LePew kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Smoke Serpent- "Jiu Jitsu". Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell feints a jab promting LePew to slip. Russell then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. LePew slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
A punch combination from Russell misses.
Russell misses with the combination.
Some wild striking there from Russell.
LePew looks for a takedown but Russell sprawls well.
LePew showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Russell.
Russell scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
LePew scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
LePew throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Russell's waist but Russell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing LePew off to one side.

Russell lands the left hand.
Russell feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits LePews jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Russell misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Russell just misses with a punch to the body.
LePew misses with a takedown attempt
and LePew takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pepe LePew. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Russell misses with a looping right.
LePew tries a head kick but it misses.
Russell throws a nice looking combination but LePew bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Russell stalks LePew and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into LePew's face. LePew staggers backwards, shaken.
Russell throws a combination. LePew tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
LePew will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Oh LePew is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pierce Russell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
LePew dodges the punch combination from Russell.
LePew seems to have got his legs back now.

Russell throws a right and a left that LePew avoids nicely.
Russell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by LePew.
LePew looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nice jab there from Russell.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for LePew. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Russell lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Russell connects with a good right hand that stumbles LePew. LePew circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Russell lands a nice shot that snaps LePew's head back.
No joy there for Russell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Russell throws a body punch but LePew moves out of range.
Russell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
LePew moves away from the strike by Russell.
Russell slaps away a takedown attempt from LePew, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Russell counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Russell throws a jab when LePew was well out of range.
Russell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but LePew circles away quickly and effectively.

LePew feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Russell trying to keep a closed guard but LePew is proving a slippery customer.

LePew is looking to work some ground and pound but Russell has wrist control.

Russell wants to sweep but no luck.
LePew passes Russell's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Russell wants to control but LePew is keeping busy.
LePew is nestled in close to Russell, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

LePew is looking for a kimura but Russell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for LePew to get the leverage.
LePew is trying to control the action in half guard but Russell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
LePew passes the guard and advances to mount!

LePew is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! LePew extends the arm and Russell is forced to tap!
