The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kupula fails with a takedown attempt.

Grant shoots in for a double leg but Kupula sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kulapu Kupula seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kupula wants to clinch up but Grant keeps it at a distance.
Kupula dives in and scores a takedown into Grant's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Grant throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kupula drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Grant manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kupula has Grant in his guard.

Kupula is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Grant is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Grant has escaped and now he's on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kupula can do anything to dispel that myth.
