Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Welsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Welsh!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Welsh misses with a wild body shot.
Welsh misses with a body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Welsh. No joy for Maia on that attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Welsh. Those never looked like landing.
Welsh throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Welsh fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Maia looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Nice uppercut there from Welsh.
Welsh fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maia manages to avoid it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Maia.
Maia dives in and grabs Welsh's left leg, looking for a takedown. Welsh pushes down on Maia's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Welsh looks to land a combination but Maia avoids it well.
Welsh shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Maia counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Maia lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Welsh wants to stand and escape but Maia is having none of it.

Maia is trying to control the action in half guard but Welsh is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Maia is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maia seems to be looking for submissions.

Welsh is not content to let Maia control the position.

Maia thows a huge punch but Welsh dodges it nicely.
Welsh looks like he's trying to stand up.
Maia seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Welsh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Maia stops Welsh from getting back to his feet.

Maia is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Welsh tries to kick Maia off but Maia keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Maia is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Welsh has managed to free his arm - good work.
Welsh scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Maia manages to mount him!
Welsh is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Maia lands a big shot there that rocks Welsh but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Maia is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Welsh can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Maia looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Welsh taking shots to the head.
Welsh's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Maia fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Maia jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Welsh manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Maia has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Welsh!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Welsh squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Maia dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Welsh just misses with a punch to the body.

Maia is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Welsh's half guard.

Maia is looking for a kimura but Welsh is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maia to get the leverage.
Welsh is trying to stand.

Maia is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Welsh is just riding it out for now. Maia eventually gives up the hold.
Welsh is trying to stand.

Maia seems to be looking for submissions.
Welsh is looking to escape.
Maia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Welsh keeps working.

Maia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Welsh is breathing heavily.
Maia is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Welsh!

Welsh is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Maia is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maia tries for a kimura but Welsh is defending well.

Maia is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Welsh is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Welsh pushes Maia away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Maia gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maia won't let Welsh get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Welsh is rocked!
Maia takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Welsh is still in real trouble! Can Maia finish him?
Welsh takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Welsh is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Maia is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Welsh is forced to tap! Great finish!
