Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evgeni Novikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evgeni Novikov!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Novikov throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mir on the side of the head.


It looks like Frank Mir has been cut.

Novikov gets caught flat footed, as Mir shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Mir stands up and waves to Novikov to follow him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mir misses the jab.
Mir shoots in looking for a takedown. Novikov tries to sprawl out of it but Mir keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Novikov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mir misses with a takedown attempt - Novikov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Novikov falls off balance throwing a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
That kick from Mir tenderised Novikov's leg. Novikov is trying to keep his angry face on.

Mir shoots in and bounces Novikov off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mir is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mir has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mir not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frank Mir.
Mir shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Novikov but Novikov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Novikov throws an elbow but it misses.
Mir has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Novikov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mir manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Novikov thows a huge punch but Mir dodges it nicely.

Novikov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mir defends it well.

Mir slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mir flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Novikov is thwarting Mir's attempts to control the position.

Novikov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mir misses with a takedown attempt - Novikov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Novikov keeps the fight on the outside.
Mir is looking to clinch but Novikov is avoiding it.
Novikov slips a jab and a cross from Mir.

Mir shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Novikov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Novikov wants to control but Mir passes easily into half guard.

Mir is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Novikov doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mir.
Mir scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Novikov on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Mir wants to lay and pray for a moment but Novikov keeps working.

Mir moves into full mount! Novikov won't be happy about that!

Mir seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Novikov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We're going to have a standup here because Frank Mir wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mir has a takedown stuffed.
Frank Mir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mir tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Novikov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Novikov takes a kick to the side of the head.
Novikov swings for the body but Mir moves out of range.
Novikov is looking to score with low kicks.
Novikov tries to move into range but Mir moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Mir shoots in but no luck this time.
Mir tries to score a power double leg takedown but Novikov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mir somewhat.
Novikov misses with a wild combination.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mir shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Novikov pinned against the cage. Novikov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Evgeni Novikov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mir closes the distance and pushes Novikov back into the cage.
Novikov tries for a takedown. No joy.

Mir escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mir plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Mir shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Novikov as he avoids it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Frank Mir is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Novikov is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mir.

Mir shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mir was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Novikov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Novikov is working to get back to half guard.
Mir controlling the pace for now.
Mir pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Mir is trying to control here but Novikov has managed to regain half guard.

Novikov has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Mir escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Mir!
Frank Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mir is looking to take a break and control but Novikov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mir lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Novikov down.
Mir advances nicely into full mount.
A nice elbow there by Mir.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mir is landing with some decent strikes but Novikov is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Frank Mir is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Mir has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
