Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erwin Rommel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Konrad Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rommel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rommel content to stall in guard here.
Rommel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Rommel passes into half guard.

Schmidt wants to get back to full guard.
Rommel controlling the pace.
Schmidt wants to get back to his feet.
Rommel slows the pace down in half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Schmidt moves into full guard.
Schmidt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rommel controls the pace.

Schmidt had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rommel is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Schmidt Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rommel's back instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Rommel's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Schmidt controlling the position well here. Rommel rolled but Schmidt kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Schmidt tries to keep control of the position but Rommel is staying busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rommel trying to control the action but Schmidt just sinks the hooks in.
Rommel looking very determined here, making life difficult for Schmidt.

The fight stays on the outside here - Schmidt looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rommel gets a takedown into half guard.
Schmidt is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rommel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rommel's back!
Schmidt looking to hold on to the position here but Rommel rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Rommel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rommel manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
You get the feeling that Schmidt really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Rommel controlling the position easily from mount.
Schmidt working to try and regain half guard.
Schmidt is breathing heavily.

Rommel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schmidt tries to hold on but Rommel postures up.
Schmidt is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rommel content just to control the position here.
Rommel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Schmidt for as long as he can get away with.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rommel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Rommel looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Schmidt is trying to maintain the position but Rommel is very close to passing his half guard.
Rommel is taking a breather. Schmidt says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Erwin Rommel just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Schmidt tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rommel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Schmidt is looking to clinch but Rommel is avoiding it.

Rommel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rommel showed some decent athleticism there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rommel in particular looking to stall.

Schmidt wants to get back to his feet.
Schmidt takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rommel prevents Schmidt from improving his position.
Rommel working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Schmidt is looking to control Rommel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Schmidt avoid being mounted?
Rommel looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Schmidt trying to control from the bottom.
Well, if Rommel is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Schmidt wants to get back to his feet.
Konrad Schmidt has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Schmidt won't allow Rommel to pass to mount.

Erwin Rommel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Rommel has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
