Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pj Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory McDanver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pj Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cory McDanver! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDanver throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Penn was covering up waiting for the punch and McDanver finishes the takedown easily into guard. McDanver advances to half guard. Penn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McDanver is working away from the top position though. McDanver thows a huge punch but Penn dodges it nicely.
McDanver not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. McDanver with the ground and pound but Penn uses the opportunity to regain guard. McDanver working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. McDanver pushes down on Penn's leg and manages to get into half guard. McDanver wants to work for an arm triangle but Penn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
McDanver missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. McDanver wants to control but Penn is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDanver thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Penn's head. Penn is controlling McDanver's trapped leg to prevent McDanver from advancing to side control. Penn tries to roll over but McDanver keeps him under control. McDanver throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. McDanver misses with a head shot. Penn uses the momentum to regain guard. McDanver throwing strikes but missing. McDanver stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McDanver accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McDanver throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Penn works some decent striking defense from the bottom. McDanver tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard. McDanver working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. McDanver with a flurry of punches that miss. Penn keeping full guard, as McDanver tries to pass. McDanver stands and throws Penn's legs to the side, diving into side control. McDanver in side control, throwing shots but Penn defends. Penn struggling a bit here. McDanver working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McDanver with the ground and pound but Penn regains half guard under the barage of strikes. McDanver is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Penn defends it well. Penn manages to get to full guard.
McDanver throws a strike but Penn rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. McDanver is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penn is aware though and is defending well. McDanver bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Penn's guard. Penn looking to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McDanver wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position. McDanver drops back, looking for a kneebar! Penn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Penn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Penn! McDanver gets back to half guard. McDanver is looking for a sweep. Penn is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. McDanver tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McDanver flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Penn lands a nice short elbow. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Penn scoring with strikes to the body and head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McDanver is staying active underneath Penn, who seems content to just control the action from this position. McDanver works his way to full guard. Good work. Penn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Cory McDanver dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Penn gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Penn is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McDanver is defending well. McDanver lands a right hand that snaps the head of Penn backwards. McDanver has Penn pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. McDanver pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Penn tumbling to the mat - McDanver dives into Penn's guard. McDanver wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position. McDanver throws a big right hand that misses. Penn looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. McDanver loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. McDanver wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving. McDanver is looking to work some ground and pound but Penn has wrist control. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McDanver accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. McDanver throws an elbow that misses. Penn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McDanver's guard. Nice move by Penn! Penn slips nicely into half guard. McDanver avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Penn. Ground and pound from Penn. Penn tries to pass the half guard into mount. McDanver knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Penn throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Penn not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McDanver is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. McDanver is defending against the submission attempts here by Penn.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn is trying to control. McDanver wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Penn prevents McDanver from improving his position. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Penn connects with a nice short shot to McDanver's temple. Penn winds up and cracks McDanver with a swinging punch to the side of the head. McDanver throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Penn trying to control the action but McDanver is working from the bottom. McDanver looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Penn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Penn slips a nice elbow through McDanver's hands, connecting with McDanver's forehead. Penn is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Penn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McDanver does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Cory McDanver has got the better of the ground game so far. Penn prevents McDanver from improving his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Penn is pressing down on McDanver's thigh, looking to free his foot. McDanver is holding on for now. McDanver manages to get to full guard.
McDanver throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McDanver looking to hit a scissor sweep but Penn is one step ahead there. Penn throws a big elbow that misses. Penn postures up in McDanver's guard and throws a big left but McDanver blocks it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McDanver is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penn is aware though and is defending well. McDanver looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but McDanver is retaining full guard. Penn got a little sloppy there for a moment and McDanver has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Penn has managed to get both his arms back between McDanver's legs - danger averted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Pj Penn will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
McDanver drives through with a takedown into Penn's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Penn is adopting a defensive guard. McDanver drops back, looking for a kneebar! Penn looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Penn looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Penn! Penn cracks McDanver with an elbow. That is naaassty. Penn creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. McDanver taking a bit of punishment here - Penn scoring with strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! McDanver is looking for a sweep. Penn works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
McDanver is rocked! McDanver is trying to get back to half guard. McDanver is still in real trouble! Can Penn finish him? Penn wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDanver keeps working. McDanver seems to have recovered his senses.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDanver is positioning himself to get back to half guard. McDanver gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Penn working the head and body with strikes. McDanver makes his way to full guard. A much better position for McDanver. Penn postures up in McDanver's guard and throws a big left but McDanver blocks it. McDanver keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully. McDanver looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
McDanver takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Penn content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Penn throwing strikes but missing. Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. McDanver looking for a guillotine here but Penn defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn advances to half guard. Penn lands strikes from half guard. McDanver tries to get to full guard but Penn has control of the leg. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McDanver is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Penn scores with a couple of nice shots. McDanver on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. McDanver gets full guard. McDanver can't keep his opponent in guard - Penn advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Penn seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. McDanver tries to roll over but Penn keeps him under control. McDanver flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for McDanver! The referee warns McDanver that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Penn is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. McDanver can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
McDanver is wriggling around trying to escape.
Penn lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Penn lands a big elbow - McDanver is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and McDanver is forced to tap out!
