The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Castle. Those never looked like landing. Castle with a lazy takedown attempt and Castle takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Castle is looking to take this fight into the clinch. McGirk looks to land a combination. Castle sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. McGirk dips down and scores with a jab to the body. McGirk gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Castle stops McGirk from standing up. McGirk preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Castle throws a big elbow that misses. Castle looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Castle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGirk swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castle throws an elbow that misses. McGirk uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Castle's guard. Nice move by McGirk! McGirk stands up from Castle's guard - McGirk perhaps looking for a knockout. Dirt McGirk is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Castle goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts McGirk, as that shot connected.
McGirk paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Castle moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. McGirk throws a nice looking combination but Castle bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. McGirk scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Castle has a takedown stuffed.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Castle gets cracked there but stands up to it.
This has been an exciting period of action! Castle stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Castle misses with a two punch combination.
Castle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Castle misses with a double jab
and McGirk counters with a left to the body. Castle avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Max Castle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Some wild striking there from Castle.
Castle will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Castle shoots in looking for a takedown. McGirk tries to sprawl out of it but Castle keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. McGirk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Castle. That's going to take a lot out of him. Castle is breathing heavily. Castle looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGirk stalks Castle and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Castle's face. Castle staggers backwards, shaken. Castle throws a leg kick and McGirk counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Castle has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Castle misses with a hook to the body
and McGirk holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. McGirk is trying to force a seperation but Castle has the dominant position. Castle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. McGirk steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Castle. McGirk tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Castle manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. McGirk bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Castle fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Castle wants to clinch up but McGirk keeps it at a distance. Castle misses with a body kick. Some wild striking there from Castle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGirk moves into the clinch. Castle breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Castle doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. McGirk wants to clinch. Castle throws a looping overhand right but McGirk ducks down to avoid it. Horrible takedown by Castle or perhaps it was just good defense by McGirk which made him look bad. McGirk fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McGirk lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McGirk fails in his attempt to clinch. Castle misses with a double jab
and McGirk counters with a lovely straight right hand! Castle shoots for a double leg takedown but McGirk sprawls well. He's pushed Castle's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Max Castle will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Castle keeps control of McGirk as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. McGirk wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. McGirk pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A combination from Castle does no damage. Castle lets loose with a powerful body kick. McGirk will feel that in the morning. Castle throws a series of punches but McGirk moves out of range. McGirk cracks Castle with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Jab, jab by McGirk - just one landing. McGirk lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. McGirk is working the combinations to good effect here. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Castle throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

Dirt McGirk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
