PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin Cahoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Conway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Calvin Cahoon!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conway lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Cahoon manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Conway on his heels. He'll look to pass Conway's guard now, I'm sure.
Cahoon trying to control but Conway is working from the bottom.

Conway has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cahoon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Calvin Cahoon was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Conway pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Cahoon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Conway is trying to defend but Cahoon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Cahoon is taking a breather. Conway says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cahoon stops Conway from getting back to his feet.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cahoon passes the guard and advances to mount!

Conway wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Cahoon.
Cahoon landing punches.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Conway wants to hold on but Cahoon pushes him away.

Cahoon looking for a guillotine from mount but Conway is having none of it.
Cahoon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Cahoon looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cahoon wants to control the pace but Conway is squirming around nicely.
Cahoon is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Cahoon dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Conway throws a head kick that Cahoon semi-blocks.
Conway tries to bum rush Cahoon with a series of wild strikes but Cahoon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Cahoon throws a big elbow that misses.

Conway had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cahoon defends it easily.
Cahoon controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Cahoon trying to control but Conway is working from the bottom.

Conway is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cahoon sitting in guard here, content to control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Cahoon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Conway gets caught napping as Cahoon dives in and scores a takedown. Conway manages to retain guard.

Cahoon slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cahoon stands and steps away. Conway gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Conway throws a jab but it's blocked by Cahoon.

Cahoon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Conway, pushing him back against the cage.

Cahoon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cahoon changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Conway looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Cahoon tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Conway manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cahoon's best efforts.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cahoon is pressing down on Conway's thigh, looking to free his foot. Conway is holding on for now.
Cahoon missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Cahoon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Conway looks like he's trying to stand up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cahoon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Cahoon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Cahoon stands and steps away. Conway gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Cahoon pushes Conway up against the cage in a clinch.

Conway's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Conway digs a good hook to Cahoon's body.

Conway misses with a double jab.

Cahoon closes the distance and clinches.
Conway managing to block the knees to the body from Cahoon.
Cahoon prevents Conway from breaking the clinch.

Cahoon ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cahoon no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Conway stands up and waves to Cahoon to follow him.
Jimmy Conway is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Conway shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cahoon sprawls well. Cahoon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Conway gets slowly back to his feet.
Jimmy Conway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cahoon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cahoon controlling the pace for now.
Let's hope that Cahoon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Cahoon is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Conway has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Conway rolls, trying to escape but Cahoon keeps control of the position.

Conway is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Cahoon struggling to keep hold of the position.
Jimmy Conway has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Conway won't enjoy being in this position. Cahoon looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Conway is tapping - it's over boys! Cahoon picks up the submission victory!
