PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Adam Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Holden Caulfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Holden Caulfield told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adam Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Holden Caulfield!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caulfield lands a nice shot that snaps Savage's head back.
Savage fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Caulfield is out of range.
Caulfield throws a looping overhand right but Savage ducks down to avoid it.
Holden Caulfield seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Caulfield blocks a head kick by Savage.
Caulfield avoids the body shot from Savage.
Caulfield jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Caulfield bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

No joy there for Savage, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Savage with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Caulfield to score with a decent uppercut.

Savage avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Savage closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Savage seems to be looking for submissions.
Savage is looking to take a break and control but Caulfield is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Savage thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Savage thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Caulfield's head.

Caulfield really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Savage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Savage is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Caulfield uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Savage.
Caulfield lands a really nice looking cross but Savage seems unphased.
Savage takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Caulfield gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Savage to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Savage is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Caulfield is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Caulfield has escaped and now he's on top!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Savage has his foot on Caulfield's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Caulfield works his way back into a safe position though.

Savage loads up on a big right hand but Caulfield slips the punch.
Savage fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Caulfield manages to avoid it.

Savage manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Caulfield on his heels. He'll look to pass Caulfield's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Adam Savage.

Caulfield rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Savage moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Savage stuns Caulfield with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Savage stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


It looks like Holden Caulfield has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A jab from Savage finds it's way through Caulfield's defenses.
Nice straight punches there by Caulfield. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Caulfield.
Caulfield looks to throw the jab but Savage is out of range.
Caulfield uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Savage.

Caulfield scores with a one two! Savage had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

and Savage counters with a left to the body.
Caulfield takes a swing at Savage's ribcage but misses.
Caulfield misses with an uppercut

and Savage counters with a nice double leg into side control. Caulfield won't be happy with that.
Caulfield takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Caulfield is not content to let Savage control the position.
The referee asks Savage politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Savage prefers to stall for the moment though.
Savage has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Caulfield!
Savage tries to control but Caulfield wriggling away.
Holden Caulfield has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Savage lands with some strikes.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Caulfield can do anything to dispel that myth.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Caulfield is working to get back to half guard.
Savage throws some wild stikes that Caulfield manages to avoid easily.
Adam Savage is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Savage jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Caulfield manages to avoid the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Savage, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
