Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Tortuga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Vai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy Tortuga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Vai! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tortuga fails with the takedown. Vai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tortuga avoids it really well and circles away. Vai thows a leg kick but Tortuga checks it and Tortuga counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vai can do anything to dispel that myth. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Tortuga with a flurry of punches that miss. Vai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Tortuga postures up.
Vai tries to land a sweep but no joy. Vai keeping moving, preventing Tortuga from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tortuga is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Tommy Tortuga has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Tortuga shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vai as he jumps to the side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vai fails with the takedown. Tortuga closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vai circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Tortuga. That's going to take a lot out of him. A low kick from Vai misses and Tortuga counters with a thumping low kick. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Tortuga checks a leg kick.

Vai throws a low kick but Tortuga avoids it. Vai wants to land a leg kick but Tortuga is out of range. Tortuga throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Vai. Vai tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Tortuga is able to avoid easily. Vai throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Vai stuffs the takedown. Tortuga checks a low kick from Vai. Tortuga shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vai pinned against the cage. Vai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Vai tries to land a leg kick but Tortuga saw it coming and moves away.

Vai showed some decent athleticism there. Vai throwing shots but Tortuga is blocking nicely. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Vai is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Joe Vai will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Vai is pushing down on Tortuga's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tortuga is fighting to maintain full guard but Vai has managed to sneak the leg through. Vai wants to control but Tortuga is keeping him busy. Vai thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Vai lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. That's three minutes gone in the round. Vai is stalling here. Tortuga is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Vai seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Tortuga has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Tortuga working away. Vai is trying to improve his position. Vai is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. A control attempt from Vai but he's now mounted! Vai is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vai wants to control but Tortuga is having none of it. Vai has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Vai slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Vai is staying active underneath Tortuga, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vai missing with punches from the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Vai has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Vai showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Vai wants to take the fight to the mat but Tortuga manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Vai gets a trip takedown into half guard. Vai is looking to take a break and control but Tortuga is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Vai wants to advance to full mount but Tortuga doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Vai being controlled here momentarily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tortuga has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Vai pushing down on Tortuga's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Vai wants to control but Tortuga is keeping him busy. Vai looking to pass the half guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Tortuga tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Vai has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Vai punching from mount but Tortuga doing a good job of avoiding damage. Vai throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Vai throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tortuga is looking to get to half guard. Tommy Tortuga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Vai scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that's the end of the fight! Joe Vai comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Vai has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
