Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Grant Kennedy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dana Gracie! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kennedy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kennedy throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Kennedy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Kennedy looking to pass the guard. Kennedy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gracie manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kennedy has Gracie in his guard. Kennedy looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gracie puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kennedy knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kennedy wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
Gracie moves into full mount! Kennedy won't be happy about that! Gracie looks gassed! Kennedy looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
That's one minute gone in the round. Kennedy rolls, trying to escape but Gracie keeps control of the position.
Kennedy is working hard here to advance position. Gracie is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kennedy is defending well though. Gracie let's go of the attempt for now. Kennedy could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Kennedy is in bad spot here.
