PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ko Teo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Olbo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Olbo has chosen When We Ride on our Enemys as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Ko Teo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ko Teo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drew Olbo!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Teo.
Olbo throws a combination that misses

and Teo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Teo is pressed up against the cage. Olbo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Teo down to the mat. Teo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Olbo looks to throw a body kick

and Teo moves into the clinch.

Teo breaks from the clinch.
Olbo has a takedown stuffed.
Olbo with a poor takedown
and Teo counters with a three punch combo that has Olbo backing up. Olbo nods at Teo to acknowledge the strikes.


Olbo is rocked!
Ko Teo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drew Olbo.
Teo lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Olbo is still on wobbly legs! Can Teo finish him?

Teo moves into the clinch successfully.
Teo has Olbo pressed against the cage.
Olbo is looking to break free of the clinch but Teo has double underhooks.
Olbo fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Olbo seems to have recovered his senses.
Olbo tries to stall but Teo uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Olbo misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Teo.
Teo avoiding damage.
Teo prevents a takedown attempt there.
Olbo tries a body shot but Teo blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Olbo tries to pull guard but Teo won't allow it.

Teo has Olbo pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Teo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Olbo tumbling to the mat - Teo dives into Olbo's guard.
Teo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Olbo on the ground.
Teo wanted to stand there but Olbo had control of the position.
Teo stopping the sweep attempt from Olbo.
Olbo is striking but Teo is not phased and passes to half guard.
Olbo tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Teo tries to stand and escape but Olbo is controlling the position.
Teo looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Teo is tying to control. Olbo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Teo dodges the punch combination from Olbo.
Olbo throws a leg kick that is checked

and Teo counters by clinching up.
Olbo wants a takedown.
Olbo looks gassed!
Teo working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Olbo tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A right hook to the body lands for Teo.
Olbo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Teo just stands there and leans against the cage.
Olbo fails to pull guard.
Teo lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Olbo wants a takedown but no success here.
Teo scores with a nice hook to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Teo lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Teo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Olbo pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Teo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Olbo uses from the top position.
Olbo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Olbo won't allow Teo to get back to his feet.

Olbo drops back looking for a leg! Teo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Teo manages to kick Olbo off! Olbo jumps back into Teo's guard.
Teo pulls Olbo in close to his closed guard and prevents Olbo from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Teo is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Teo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Olbo is controlling him.
Teo is wriggling around but Olbo manages to pass to half guard.
Olbo passes to full mount!
Olbo landing strikes from the mount and Teo is in trouble!
Teo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Teo wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Olbo.

Olbo looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Olbo is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Teo is in real trouble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ko Teo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Olbo.

Teo feints and as Olbo raises his hands in defense, Teo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Olbo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Olbo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Teo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Olbo.
Teo pushes Olbo off looking to stand but Olbo dives back in and keeps control.
Olbo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Olbo wants to pass to mount but Teo is defending the position.

Olbo is tying to control. Teo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Olbo is controlling the pace.
Teo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Teo is pressing down on Olbo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Olbo trying to control but Teo is working from the bottom.
Olbo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Teo wants to stand and escape but Olbo is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Teo pulls Olbo in to control the position.
Olbo wants to pass the guard but Teo is keeping the position.

Olbo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Olbo is breathing heavily.
Olbo looking to sit in guard and control but Teo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Teo wanted to stand there but Olbo had control of the position.
Teo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Olbo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Teo wants to stand but Olbo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Teo slips nicely into half guard.
Teo tries to stand and escape but Olbo is controlling the position.
Olbo is trying to get back to full guard.

Teo stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Olbo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Olbo is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Teo is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Drew Olbo!
