The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Slick scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carwin can do anything to dispel that myth. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. The strikes coming from The Slick are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Carwin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Carwin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of The Slick. Carwin is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Carwin is trying to buck The Slick off. Carwin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Slick wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Carwin, who protects the arm well. The Slick lands a decent elbow from side control. The Slick working the head with strikes. The Slick working the ground and pound. Carwin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of The Slick. The Slick stands up and beckons Carwin to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carwin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Carwin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Carwin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by The Slick. The Slick shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carwin napping and manages to drive through into side control! The Slick is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carwin has escaped the position, nice work there. The Slick is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Carwin is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Slick tries to score with some ground and pound. Carwin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The Slick trying to control the position but Carwin is working away. Carwin wants to get back to his feet. The Slick cracks Carwin with a big right hand but Carwin just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Carwin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but The Slick is controlling him well. The Slick working the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The Slick working the ground and pound from side control. Carwin is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but The Slick has just dragged him back down to the mat. Carwin looks gassed! The Slick tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The Slick decides to stand back up. Carwin stuns The Slick with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. The Slick fails with the takedown. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The Slick closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Carwin is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Donkier The Slick dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Carwin throws a one two combo.
The Slick is rocked!
It looks like Donkier The Slick has been cut. Carwin throws a nice looking combination but The Slick bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Oh The Slick is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Carwin throws a wild combination but nothing lands. The Slick shoots in but no luck this time. The Slick misses with a wild combination.
Carwin circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops The Slick to the canvas! The Slick doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Carwin keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
