PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryce Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hessu Hopo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hopo has chosen Bodies as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Hessu Hopo enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bryce Tanner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hessu Hopo!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hopo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Tanner was covering up waiting for the punch and Hopo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hopo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Tanner keeping full guard, as Hopo tries to pass.
Hopo throws a big right hand that misses.

Hopo tries to free his leg and advance position but Tanner is retaining full guard.
Hopo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hopo distracts Tanner with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Tanner pushes Hopo off and scrambles back to his feet.

Tanner drives through with a takedown into Hopo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Hopo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tanner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hopo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tanner has managed to get both his arms back between Hopo's legs - danger averted.

Hopo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tanner is aware though and is defending well.

Hopo has his foot on Tanner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tanner works his way back into a safe position though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tanner stands up over Hopo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tanner works over Hopo with some ground and pound from guard.

Hopo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Hopo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hopo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Tanner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Hopo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hopo scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.
Tanner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hopo's head.
Tanner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hopo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tanner works over Hopo with some ground and pound from guard.
Tanner postures up in Hopo's guard and throws a big left but Hopo blocks it.
Hopo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tanner manages to get himself to full guard.
Tanner wants to stand up but Hopo is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hopo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hopo forces his way into half guard.
Hopo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Tanner wants to stand back up but Hopo manages to pass into side control.
Tanner is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hopo is controlling him well.
Tanner is breathing heavily.
Hopo working the body and head with strikes.
Hopo prevents Tanner from escaping the position.

Hopo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tanner, who protects the arm well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hopo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hopo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hopo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tanner has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tanner is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hopo connects with a decent elbow.
Hopo fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Hopo working the ground and pound.
Hopo in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Hopo looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Tanner is avoiding damage well.
Tanner is trying to get back to his feet.
Tanner taking a bit of punishment here - Hopo scoring with strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hopo trying to control the action but Tanner is working from the bottom.
Hopo lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hessu Hopo dominated that round.
That's time! Tanner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hopo lands with a nice body punch.
Hopo throws a low kick but Tanner avoids it.
Tanner walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Tanner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hopo struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopo sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Hopo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tanner is working away from the top position though.
Tanner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hopo on the ground.
Hopo gets back to full guard.

Hopo is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Tanner frees his head nicely. Oh but Hopo has switched to an armbar! Tanner is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Hessu Hopo!
