PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Qpf Fighter Three (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Marinas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marinas has chosen Linkin Park - Faint as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jose Marinas was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Qpf Fighter Three!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Marinas!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marinas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Marinas throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Marinas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fighter Three is trying to stand back up but Marinas is controlling him

Marinas seems to be working for a kimura but Fighter Three defends the submission attempt.
Fighter Three wants to get back to full guard.
Marinas sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Fighter Three is looking to control Marinas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fighter Three avoid being mounted?
Marinas slows the pace down in half guard.

Fighter Three looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Fighter Three is pressing down on Marinas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Marinas lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Fighter Three wants to stand up but Marinas is controlling him.

Marinas's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jose Marinas hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marinas tries for a takedown but Fighter Three sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Fighter Three tries to clinch up.
Fighter Three misses the shot to the body.

Marinas looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fighter Three is striking off his back. Marinas thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Marinas works his foot free and advances to mount.
Marinas sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Fighter Three tries to buck Marinas off but he can't manage it.
Marinas looking to control and managing it successfully.

Fighter Three tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Marinas working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Marinas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Marinas dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Marinas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fighter Three sprawls well initially but Marinas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Marinas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Marinas is keen to just control but Fighter Three is a slippery customer.
Marinas working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Marinas throwing shots but Fighter Three is blocking nicely.

Fighter Three is trying to control but Marinas manages to pass to mount!
Marinas thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Jose Marinas has got the better of the ground game so far.
BOOM! Marinas connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Marinas looking to control and managing it successfully.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Marinas swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Fighter Three is now in Marinas's guard. A big mistake from Marinas there, giving up the dominant position!

Jose Marinas has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Marinas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Marinas gets to mount! Fighter Three was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Fighter Three really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Fighter Three regains half guard.
Fighter Three on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Fighter Three wants to get back to full guard but Marinas has passed into side control.

Marinas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Marinas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

You can see the frustration on Fighter Three's face as Marinas controls the position.
Fighter Three gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fighter Three is squirming around, avoiding Marinas's attempts to control the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A nice elbow there by Marinas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Marinas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Fighter Three looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Marinas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Fighter Three wants to pass the guard but Marinas is keeping the position.

Fighter Three stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marinas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marinas lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fighter Three!

Fighter Three can't escape the position.
Marinas controlling the pace for now.

Marinas is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Fighter Three throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marinas was covering up waiting for the punch and Fighter Three finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Marinas looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marinas pulls Fighter Three in close to his closed guard and prevents Fighter Three from doing any damage or advancing position.
Marinas keeping moving, preventing Fighter Three from controlling successfully.

Marinas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fighter Three can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Marinas has a closed guard, preventing Fighter Three from standing up.

Marinas has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Fighter Three has passed into side control.

Fighter Three is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Marinas has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fighter Three tries to stand but Marinas is controlling his head.
Marinas can't do much from the bottom here.
Fighter Three wants to control but Marinas is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marinas struggling a bit here.
Fighter Three fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Marinas is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fighter Three's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Marinas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fighter Three's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fighter Three's back!
Marinas controls the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fighter Three trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Qpf Fighter Three has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jose Marinas is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marinas controlling well, preventing Fighter Three from escaping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jose Marinas.
Well Marinas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
