1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marteau Thomas! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tsoi is defended easily by Thomas. Tsoi fails with a takedown attempt. Tsoi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Thomas is trying to defend but Tsoi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomas can do anything to dispel that myth. Tsoi is working for a submission of some sort.
Tsoi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thomas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tsoi.

Thomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tsoi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tsoi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thomas is just riding it out for now. Tsoi eventually gives up the hold. Tsoi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
