The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Norris scores with a hook to the body. Patton takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Patton slips under a jab. Patton takes the fight into the clinch. Patton wants a takedown.
Norris misses with a hook to the ribs.
Patton drags the fight down to the ground.
Patton pulls Norris in close to prevent any damage. Patton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Patton has his foot on Norris's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Norris works his way back into a safe position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patton looking for subs off his back but Norris has passed one foot through into half guard.
Patton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Patton trying to control from the bottom.
Patton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Patton wants to control the action here but instead Norris manages to pass to full mount! Patton tries to reverse the position but Norris maintains control. Norris controlling the pace for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patton tries to lock up and control but Norris gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Norris wants to control the pace but Patton is squirming around nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Patton tries to hold on but Norris postures up. Patton is working to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patton wants to hold on but Norris pushes him away. Patton keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Patton tries to keep at a distance but Norris has taken the fight into the clinch. Patton works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Patton is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Patton throws a big elbow that misses. Patton throwing strikes from guard but Norris blocks nicely. Patton trying to control but Norris is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patton throws a strike but Norris rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Norris trying to control but Patton is working from the bottom. Patton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Norris got a little sloppy there for a moment and Patton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Norris has managed to get both his arms back between Patton's legs - danger averted.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Norris stopping the sweep attempt from Patton. Patton pushes a forearm under Norris's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Norris is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
