PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howard has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Jon Taylor is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Howard!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard misses with a double jab.

Taylor moves into range and clinches up with Howard.
Taylor wants to take the fight to the mat but Howard manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Taylor tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Howard keeps control of Taylor as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Howard has hold of one of Taylor's legs. Taylor is fighting the takedown attempt but Howard gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Howard looks gassed!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Taylor is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Taylor is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Howard defends well.

Taylor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Howard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Howard got a little sloppy there for a moment and Taylor has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Howard has managed to get both his arms back between Taylor's legs - danger averted.

Howard drops back looking for a leg! Taylor is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Taylor manages to kick Howard off! Howard jumps back into Taylor's guard.

Howard decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Taylor, up you get!

Taylor just misses with a punch to the body.
Taylor closes the distance and clinches up with Howard, looking for a takedown. Taylor pushes Howard against the cage but Howard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Howard shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee warns Taylor that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Taylor tries to reverse the position but Howard maintains control.
Howard scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Howard has hold of Taylor's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Taylor manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Howard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Taylor is in all sorts of trouble here.

Taylor somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Howard shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Howard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Taylor is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Howard pulls his head out easily.

Howard seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Howard dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Taylor closes the distance and pushes Howard back into the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Taylor fails to land.
Howard is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Taylor unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Taylor tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Taylor throws an elbow but it misses.
Taylor misses with the head strike.
Taylor tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Taylor pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Howard is breathing heavily.
No luck for Taylor with that takedown attempt.
Howard throws a low kick but Taylor moves out of range easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes from Howard. Those never looked like landing.
Howard uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Taylor has time to react.
Taylor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Howard shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Howard showed some decent athleticism there.

Taylor on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Taylor tries to get out of the position.

Taylor is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Howard rolls with it to try and escape but Taylor cranks on the arm and Howard is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

After winning the bout, Jon Taylor thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
