Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Merlin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Esteban Miller! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller has Merlin up against the cage in a clinch.
Miller has had enough of the clinch but Merlin keeps him there for the moment. Miller looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Miller escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice sprawl there from Miller as Merlin shoots in. Miller scores with a jab to the body. Merlin misses with a few strikes there.
Merlin fails with a takedown attempt. Merlin shoots in and drives through. Miller sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Merlin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Miller clinches up against the cage. Merlin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Miller smiles and moves away.
Miller leaves Merlin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Miller throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Merlin is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merlin tries to clinch but Miller moves out of range. Miller clinches up with Merlin and pushes him back against the cage. Merlin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Miller smiles and moves away.
Both fighters circling a little - Miller finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Merlin on the wrong end of a nice hook.
It looks like David Merlin has been cut. Merlin gets tackled into the cage by Miller. Miller maintains the clinch. Miller is trying to break free. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Miller breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Miller scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Miller bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Miller connects with a leg kick. Merlin looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Miller scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Merlin, pushing him back against the cage. Miller manages to break the clinch.
David Merlin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. An inside leg kick lands from Miller. Miller feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Merlin's calf. Miller lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Miller connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Miller fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Merlin, pushing him back against the cage. Miller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Miller slips a jab from Merlin. Nice body punch from Miller. Esteban Miller is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Merlin takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Merlin is rocked! Miller feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Merlin's calf. Oh Merlin is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Miller drives through and clinches with Merlin against the cage.
Merlin seems to have got his legs back now. Miller wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Miller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller takes the fight into the clinch. Merlin misses with a knee to the head. Merlin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Miller just stands there and leans against the cage. Merlin is trying to trip Miller. He has hold of a leg but Miller is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Merlin persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Miller looking to hit a scissor sweep but Merlin is one step ahead there. Merlin is fighting to break Miller's control of his arms but Miller is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merlin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miller swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Esteban Miller. Merlin has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Miller. Miller has taken the fight to the clinch.
Merlin is trying to pull guard but Miller turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Merlin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Miller fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Merlin swats him away and circles back towards the center. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Miller lands a nice looking body kick. Miller doesn't manage to clinch there - Merlin circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Esteban Miller dominated that round. The cut man is working on David Merlin's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Miller lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Merlin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Miller sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Merlin somewhat. Merlin fails in his attempt to clinch. Miller fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Merlin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Merlin shoots in for a double leg but Miller sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Merlin throws a hook to the side of Miller's head but Miller sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. The fight moves into the clinch position. Miller tries to circle away but Merlin has him pinned against the cage. Miller blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Merlin makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Miller dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Miller breaks the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merlin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
David Merlin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Miller connects with a solid leg kick. Esteban Miller seems to be getting the better of the standup. Miller clinches with his opponent.
Miller's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Miller doesn't manage to clinch there - Merlin circles away.
Miller lands a big head kick that sends Merlin tumbling to the mat! Miller takes a step backwards and waves Merlin back to his feet - he wants the finish! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Miller, right into the meat.
The fighters circle, before Miller throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Merlin's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Miller lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
