PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Bok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Allen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Realest Sport. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Bok!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bok lands a right hook to the body.
Allen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bok sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Allen somewhat.
Bok throws a right and a left that both miss.
Allen slips under a jab.
Allen takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Bok swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Allen moves out of range as Bok throws a body kick.
Bok throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Allen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bok changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Bok throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Allen stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Bok thows a left - swing and a miss!
Nice takedown defense from Bok. No joy for Allen on that attempt.
Bok looks to land a combination. Allen sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Bok circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bok throws a lazy uppercut

and Allen moves into the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Bok.
Bok tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Bok tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Allen's elbow.
Bok gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Allen.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Allen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bok scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Allen breaks from the clinch.
Allen avoids the body shot from Bok.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bok.
Bok throws a good cross that connects.
Bok throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bok pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Allen has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Allen there as he acknowledges the shot.
Bok lands a jab.

Allen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Allen feints and as Bok raises his hands in defense, Allen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Allen prevents Bok from getting back to his feet.
Allen trying to control but Bok is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Allen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Allen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Allen throws a strike but Bok rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Allen is adopting a defensive guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Jason Allen wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Allen slips under a jab from Bok.
Bok ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Allen moves away.
Allen fails in his attempt to clinch.
Danga de danga de dang - Bok scores with a four punch combination!
Allen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bok.
Jab, jab by Bok - just one landing.
Bok misses with an uppercut.
Nice straight punches there by Bok. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Bok.
Bok uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Allen has time to react.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bok swings for the body but Allen moves out of range.
Bok tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Allen was well out of range. Poor timing from Bok.
Allen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bok throws out the jab.
Steve Bok seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Allen tries to clinch up but Bok circles away and keeps his distance.
Bok misses with an uppercut. Allen saw that one coming.
Bok dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Allen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Allen wants to stand but Bok has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Allen trying to control but Bok is working from the bottom.
Allen stands and throws Bok's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Bok dominated that round.
That's time! Allen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Bok takes the fight into the clinch.

Bok breaks the clinch.
Allen tries to clinch up but Bok circles away and keeps his distance.
Allen takes a body punch but keeps moving.
A leg kick checked by Allen.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Allen.
Allen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Allen tries for a takedown but Bok sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Allen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Allen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bok as he jumps to the side.
Allen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bok avoids it really well and circles away.

Bok moves out of range of the body kick from Allen.
Allen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Steve Bok is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bok throws a good cross that connects.

Allen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bok manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Allen controlling from the top position.
Bok wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Allen trying to control the position from guard on top but Bok is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bok looking to control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bok tries to bum rush Allen with a series of wild strikes but Allen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bok scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Bok misses with a leg kick
and Allen counters with a series of strikes. Bok will be more careful next time no doubt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bok misses with a shot to the body
and Allen counters with a right hand to the body.
Bok cracks Allen with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Steve Bok seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A head kick misses from Bok.
Nice sprawl there from Bok as Allen shoots in.
Allen takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Bok with a hook.
Bok keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bok scores with a jab to the body.
Bok ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Allen is looking to clinch.
Bok stuffs the takedown attempt from Allen. Allen gets slowly back to his feet.
Bok leaves Allen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Allen shoots in for a takedown but Bok shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Allen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Bok lands with a right hand.

Allen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bok misses with a looping right.
Bok tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Allen was well out of range. Poor timing from Bok.
Allen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Allen.

Bok has Allen up against the cage in a clinch.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bok lands a hook that snaps the head of Allen backwards.
Allen is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bok is defending well.
Bok lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Bok prevents Allen from breaking the clinch.
Bok is struggling to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Bok showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Allen shoots in for a takedown but Bok shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Allen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bok defends it nicely.

Bok throws an overhand right that lands on Allen's shoulder, as Allen tries to avoid the shot.

A looping hook to the body misses from Bok. Allen does a little dance to reset his feet.

Bok throws out a leg kick but Allen moves out of range and Bok only half commits.
Allen misses with a takedown attempt - Bok sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bok jabs Allen to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A lazy left from Bok finds it's target.

Bok fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Allen looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Good exchange - Bok coming out on top.
Bok lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Bok ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Allen moves away.
Bok misses with a left hand

so Allen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jason Allen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bok wants to get back to his feet but Allen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Allen trying to control the position from guard on top but Bok is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bok manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Allen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bok's head.
Allen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bok sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Allen somewhat.

Bok clinches up against the cage.
Bok works on Allen's body with a couple of short punches.

Bok breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Bok throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Steve Bok is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Allen moves into range and clinches up with Bok.
Allen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Allen tries to break the clinch but Bok is controlling the position.
Bok throws an elbow that misses.
Allen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Jason Allen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bok goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Allen is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bok lands with a right to the head.
Bok tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Allen tries for a takedown but Bok manages to get underhooks.
Allen tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Bok comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Bok winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Steve Bok was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
