Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Cornish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Askren! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremy Cornish! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Askren lands with an uppercut that bounces Cornish off the ropes and back into range. Askren lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Cornish scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Askren prevents Cornish from moving into mount. Askren is trying to escape the position but Cornish is controlling the position. Askren is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Askren prevents Cornish from moving into mount. Cornish is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Cornish laying and praying for a moment but Askren takes advantage and regains half guard. Cornish trying to control the action but Askren is working from the bottom.

Cornish working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Askren. Askren is stalling in the full guard. Cornish looking to hit a scissor sweep but Askren is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Askren's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Askren stands and steps away. Cornish gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Askren stuffs the takedown attempt from Cornish. Cornish gets slowly back to his feet. Decent striking displayed by Askren there. Askren fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cornish scores with a nice head shot. Askren doesn't manage to clinch there - Cornish circles away.
Askren tries to close the distance and clinch but Cornish swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Askren is looking to clinch but Cornish is avoiding it.
Askren connects with a nice looking jab.
Askren moves into the clinch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Askren landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Cornish blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Askren misses with a punch on the inside.
Cornish throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Askren breaks the clinch.
Askren pushes Cornish up against the ropes in a clinch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Askren tries a knee to the head but Cornish blocks it.
Askren scores with an uppercut up the middle. Come on Askren - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Askren creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Askren plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Askren tries to clinch but Cornish moves out of range. Cornish circles away from the clinch attempt.
Askren moves to clinch but Cornish breaks away and Cornish counters with a nice uppercut. Ben Askren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cornish shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Askren as he jumps to the side. Askren is looking to clinch. Askren doesn't manage to clinch there - Cornish circles away.
Askren tries to close the distance and clinch but Cornish swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Askren tries to clinch and Cornish cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Askren is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Askren defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cornish.
That's one minute gone in the round. Askren moves to clinch but Cornish breaks away and Cornish connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Askren closes the distance but Cornish moves to the side and Cornish counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Askren keeping moving, preventing Cornish from controlling successfully. Askren is edging up against the ropes. He's using the ropes to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Cornish pulls guard effortlessly. Cornish controls Askren momentarily but Askren frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Askren with a flurry of punches that miss. Askren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cornish swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cornish wants to sweep here but Askren controlling him for the moment. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Askren throws an elbow that misses. Cornish uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Askren's guard. Nice move by Cornish! Askren wants to stand and escape but Cornish is having none of it. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Askren here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cornish forces his way into half guard. Cornish is keen to just control but Askren is a slippery customer. Cornish is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Askren! Cornish seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Askren is holding on tight.

Askren is squirming around, avoiding Cornish's attempts to control the action. Cornish might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Askren kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Jeremy Cornish has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cornish is trying to take his opponent's back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cornish can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Askren is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jeremy Cornish showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

He's got his arms around Askren's waist but Askren gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cornish off to one side. Askren tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Cornish manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Askren tries to clinch there but Cornish circles away.

That's going to take a lot out of Jeremy Cornish. Cornish jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Askren walks away with a smile on his face. Cornish gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Askren tries to clinch up so Cornish counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Cornish passes easily into side control. Nice work. Askren regains half guard there - taking advantage of Cornish's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Cornish is trying to control the action in half guard but Askren is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Cornish is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Askren wants to get back to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! Ben Askren showed his dominance in that final round. I think Askren has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
