The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparda misses with a takedown attempt and Panganiban counters with a takedown into side control. Panganiban postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Panganiban with the ground and pound but Sparda regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Sparda regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Panganiban. Sparda avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Panganiban throws an elbow that misses. Panganiban manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Panganiban on the wrong end of a nice hook. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Panganiban shoots in for a double leg but Sparda sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Aira Panganiban overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Sparda scoring with some ground and pound. Sparda is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Panganiban is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sparda is controlling him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sparda is standing up over Panganiban. Panganiban looks to escape but Sparda dives into side control.

He catches Panganiban napping and manages to drive through into side control! Panganiban is not content to let Sparda control the position. Panganiban pushes Sparda away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sparda gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Sparda is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Panganiban throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Sparda misses with a few strikes there.

Panganiban goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sparda prevents it.
Panganiban's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Panganiban works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Panganiban throws a strike but Sparda rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Sparda advances to half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Panganiban looks like he's trying to stand up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Panganiban is looking to get back to his feet here but Sparda is keeping cool and he's managed to take Panganiban's back.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Aira Panganiban. I think Panganiban has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
