The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Megani shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Melendez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Melendez tries to bench press Megani off him but Megani keeps the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Melendez prevents Megani from improving position.
Melendez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Megani asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Melendez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Megani wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Melendez can't do much from the bottom here.
Melendez parries the strikes from Megani easily there. Megani is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Melendez to escape.
Melendez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Megani is controlling him well.
Megani really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Melendez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Melendez wants to control but Megani is having none of it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
