Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maro Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carson Patrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carson Patrick told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos gets the takedown into side control.
Santos decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Patrick is looking to clinch.
Santos drives through and clinches with Patrick against the cage.
Santos landing knees to the head.
It looks like Carson Patrick has been cut.
Santos pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santos is looking for a triangle but Patrick pushes his legs off easily.

Santos drops back, looking for a kneebar! Patrick looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Patrick looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Patrick!

Still in half guard, Santos seems content to control.
Patrick has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Santos is working away from the top position though.

Santos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Patrick is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Nice takedown defense from Patrick. No joy for Santos on that attempt.

and Santos counters by moving into the clinch.

Santos manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Santos is looking for a triangle here but Patrick uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Patrick wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Santos stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Santos isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Patrick stacks Santos on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Patrick!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
